University of Bristol told to learn lessons after Ben Murray's suicide

BBC News, 2 May 2019  : "A university has been asked to investigate the death of every student to see if any lessons can be learnt following a number of suicides".

... The Avon coroner Maria Voisin told Bristol University it should make detailed inquiries after each death... She also called for mental health to be "de-stigmatised" and more disclosure on application forms... Prof Sarah Purdy said: "We are extremely grateful to Ben's father James who has worked with us... to develop a Suicide Safer Strategy...

... A Bristol University student who faced being thrown off his course received no support from staff before he took his own life, an inquest heard... Ben Murray, 19, died in May 2018... His father James told the hearing Ben received no follow-up after receiving a letter saying he was being dismissed... Mr Murray said his son previously told staff he felt "anxious" and "unwell"... In the past three years, 12 University of Bristol students have died... Seven of the deaths were recorded as suicide, three inquests - including Mr Murray's - are still to take place or be determined, and two inquests returned narrative verdicts...
